- (March 28) Chess Team's Next Move Could Make History - Final Four Win Would Give UT Dallas Victories in Top Contests 2 Years in a Row
- (March 26) UT Dallas wins 2008 Southwest Collegiate Championship – UT Dallas took first place in the team championship with 16.5 points. UT Dallas finished ahead of other colleges, such as Texas Tech (2nd place) at 9.5 and UT Austin (3rd place) at 7.0. Others, such as SMU, played at the Hilton Americas in Houston, TX March 8-9. First individual place with 4.5 points went to Marko Zivanic (UTD). Tied for 2nd-4th with 4.0 points were UTD team members Davorin Kuljasevic, Chaitanya Vaidya, and Bayaraa Zorigt. In 5th place with 3.0 points was Francisco Guadalupe.
- (March 24) Townview Center Wins Team Trophy At DISD Chess Championship (Oak Cliff Tribune, 2-28-08) - Undergraduate Studies Dean Michael J. Coleman awarded a chess tournament winner with a four-year scholarship.

- (February 21) Skyline student Eduardo Ramos won first place at the fifth annual Dallas ISD High School Chess Championship. He won a four-year academic excellence distinction scholarship to the University of Texas at Dallas, which covers tuition and mandatory fees as well as a $1,000-per-year contribution toward living expenses.
